Welcome to my website. My name is Lorenzo Giangrande and I would like to take this opportunity to tell you a little bit about my new book, Debt of Conscience. The story has two, very different, plot lines. The first, deals with the history of the United States during its most formative years. The second addresses the very fragile and vulnerable North American Great Lakes and its role in the world's economy.

As the number of Europeans immigrating to the American colonies increased the demand for more and more land, to house and feed the new settlers, placed a tremendous pressure on the colonial governors to expand the colonies. This increased demand, together with a certain naivety of the native tribes, precipitated a climate ripe for abuse. While the vision of the founding fathers of this new-land was noble and righteous, they did not all share the same code of ethics.

As the demand for land by the colonies increased, so did the reluctance of the tribes; war was inevitable. War does no one any good and the colonists as well as the natives understood this. To appease their differences of opinion, treaties were signed. These agreements allotted new territory for the colonies while identifying strict boundaries separating them from tribal territory. These treaties, their provisos, and the abuses against them by the colonies, are at the heart of Debt of Conscience.

The story begins with a brief history of the migration, from Asia, of the earliest inhabitants of North America and their evolution into the Native Nations of North America. The central plot, however, takes place in modern times. Through a series of flashbacks, I take the reader through some of the darkest days of the evolution of the Native Americans. The reader will begin to understand how the Nations digressed from a free and proud people, roaming this vast territory in peace, to mere remnants of their former selves. The insatiable appetite, of the white settlers, for more and more land reduced the Native Americans to little more than slaves, forcing them to live in abject poverty on worthless plots of dirt, with little or no means to support themselves.

The prophecy of Tecumseh stated that the Nations would return to their rightful place of honor and would someday have their nation returned to them. This forms the gist of the story. Twin brothers, educated in the deep traditions of the Nations and every nuance of the laws of the whites, become sharp, articulate, and savvy litigators that turn the United States Constitution into their weapon of choice as they pursue their quest to return their Nation to the Natives of America.

The second plot line gives a brief, but informative, history of the formation of the North American Great Lakes. The reader will learn their strengths and their vulnerabilities.

The United States decides to take covert and lethal action against the secret head of a terrorist network, known to be responsible for a host of attacks against a number of Nations around the world not the least of which was the United States. As a result of this action, the remaining members of this dreaded organization decide to strike back at North America. Their objective is to destroy the North American Great Lakes by diverting a sufficient volume of water to render them useless as the critically strategic shipping corridor they have become. The reader will see an eerie likeness to the events that have unfolded since the tragic events on September 11th that, sadly, have validated our vulnerability to terrorist attack. The reader will get an insight into the delicate, ecological balance that exists between the great inland seas and the Atlantic Ocean, and just how easy they would be to place in jeopardy. I sight, in example, the cataclysmic results of the mismanagement of the Aral Sea, in Eastern Russia. With no regard for their consequences, government officials of the former Soviet Union carelessly, and with disregard for the many warnings given to them by a number of organizations, diverted water from the rivers that fed the Aral Sea, to the Province of Georgia for agricultural purposes. The results were devastating and tragic.

It is important to point out that the story line for Debt Of Conscience, particularly the subplot involving the Great Lakes, was first written between the years 1995, and 1996.  Knowing this, and in light of the events in the Middle East that have unfolded since that time and September 11, 2001, you will clearly see how prophetic Debt Of Conscience truly is.

While one might think that these two story lines could hardly be related, I have a surprise for you, they are! To find out you'll just have to read Debt of Conscience for yourself. Just CLICK on the book icon and you will be able to read more about my story and me.
